Hardly a weekend goes by that top MMA trainer and namesake of the New Mexico-based camp Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts, Greg Jackson, isn’t in the corner of a world-class fighter. But somewhere between the training sessions, travel and pay-per-view events, Jackson – along with occasional MMAjunkie.com contributor Kelly Crigger – has penned a new striking manual entitled “Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts: The Stand-Up Game.” Jackson recently told (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that the book was based around a series of proven techniques and should prove beneficial to competitors of all levels. “Kelly Crigger, who helped out with it, is the guy that really talked me into it,” Jackson said. “And once he said, ‘You should do a book,’ I really like helping people. That’s why I’m in the business. “I thought I could write a book from not-so-much a fighter’s point of view, because you can teach people to fight like you, but something that everybody could use.

Something that no matter what your skill level or who you were you could take something.” Jackson said the book was a reflection of his daily routine – a routine that consists of working with fighters like Georges St. Pierre, Rashad Evans, Nate Marquardt, Keith Jardine, Joe Villasenor, Leonard Garcia, and many, many more.

“That’s kind of what I do,” Jackson said. “I take different fighters and work with their individual styles. What I was able to with this book is kind of put all these moves down that anybody can use and add to their game, I hope.

“It’s really just about trying to help people out. It’s a lot of fun for me to write, and it was really fun to work on. There’s a lot of experience in there and a lot of me just having fun and showing what I love to do. Vyazanie beretov spicami dlya nachinayuschih video for kids. I hope people get it, and I hope it can help some people out.” While it may seem a bit odd that an elite-level trainer would be willing to divulge his library of techniques to the general public – a public which would include his competition – Jackson said he believes its important for fighters as a whole to improve. Plus, he still has a few tricks up his sleeve. “It’s all out there,” Jackson said. “I’m not a guy that holds back secrets.

I believe in (sharing methods of) preparation, except in the gameplans, of course – specific gameplans for certain fighters. “In the book, there’s a strategy section that goes over how to make a gameplan. We even got a little streetfighting section in there. It was just a lot of fun, and I tried to put all the years I’ve been doing this into the book and help people.

The better your competition is, the better it makes you.” Jackson said a follow-up book will be released later this year that details the ground game. But for now, he hopes fighters of all skill levels can appreciate “The Stand Up Game,” and he believes his years of experience as a trainer can benefit each and every person that utilizes the principles of his first manual. “I don’t fight for a living; I train for a living,” Jackson said. “So, what I’m able to do in the strategy section and all the techniques is take all that experience from training different fighters and different styles – if you look at our team, we’ve got a whole gambit of different styles – and the ability to try and help out each individual style is one of my very few strengths as a trainer. So I took that and put in the book.

“All these moves are things that you can do to add to your system, your arsenal. And they’re proven to work for different styles. You’re not just going to fight like Fedor (Emelianenko), or whatever. You’re going to fight like yourself, but you’re going to add these principles and have the opportunity to develop.” MMAjunkie.com Radio broadcasts Monday-Friday at noon EST (9 a.m. PST) live from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino’s Race & Sports Book. The show is hosted by Gorgeous George, MMAjunkie.com lead staff reporter John Morgan and producer Goze.
